I don't like our current episodes either. But guess what, I have the Dragonbox (480p true remaster of original footage no color modification), I plan to replace audio (funimation dub and Faulconer's soundtrack) for the entire series and edit episodes 1-53 to fit the ocean dub audio cut. I appreciate the thought but the DBZ remaster project has been planned since as far back as last fall. It'll take long to complete the entire series and I have a couple episodes of the Ocean dub full edit finished but I don't really want to post samples of those unless somebody really needs to see them. These will be perfect 480p renderings with the original Toonami aired Ocean dub for the first 53 episodes and funimation dub for the rest. That is all there is to it, I don't usually like to spill the beans on incomplete work but I wanted to put any other ideas for remastering DBZ to rest.

p.s. the commercials are cool, I'd be interested in those if you have any more. TA will not aid in the aquisition of the tapes however, we barely have enough money to pay for the upkeep of the site.

^Agree'd. We're done just fine the way we are, and with Toon underway on his idea there should be no other need for DBZ remastering.

Of course, to each their own, so if you really still feel a need to do it, who are we to stop you?

I can tell you again remastered will be clearer, not aesthetic, but good initiative.  I'll leave discussion open for anyone with input

to add to the chat if they approve

The tapes will be purchased by myself, and will be free to use by anyone who wants them from me.

I can clear all the obstacles myself, and will get my own vhs ripper.  TBH, I can get this done within a month.

Not sure I understand why you'd want that footage. The dragonbox, is an unaltered remaster from the original film of series in 480p. Perfect 480p quality, nothing on a vhs (or previous dvd releases) can touch it. The only difference would be coloring as the dragonbox is unsaturated, where as all released footage I know of including vhs is color filtered. If its the Ocean dub you're interested in thats another story, the audio rips I'm using that are good tv rips but not perfect. If those vhs tapes are funimatin dub then it wouldn't matter as those are available on dvd. You mind explaining why you want to remaster the vhs DBZ series footage?

This is an example Dragonbox Remaster with Ocean dub (not from my own cut which will be of the entire series):

This is very good quality.  ^

If it sounds redundant that I'm remastering the VHS again, let me explain.  I hope to upload them to mirror their inherent production quality to a television worthy degree as we once saw it.  There won't be a SH1TTY vhs look, but a clean rendition.

A point I want to make:

There is a difference between an individual's copy of toonami content from a television-tape recorder back then and manufactured tapes.  The thing with analog, the more times you make an analog copy, the more natural noise builds up, eventually what you would know as static.  Individual's tapes are on poor machines and have a grainy look.  Professional tapes digitized are a different story (which will always retain the quality they imitate).  The dragon box has a natural look, but when I watch the VHS versions, my ears and eyes just feel good Smile .  The colors in the VHS look like a painting and the sound sounds like a soft record. (warm fuzz((not even what you caould call fuzzy nor grainy)) not static)

So an amount mirroring the Tapes True quality, but not controlled (I believe the dragon box is allowed noise but Controlled, and there shouldn't be allowed confounding rehashes) amount of natural portrayal s what I'm going for.

Maybe we can show one eventually, and put a poll between the two.  Now that wouldn't be 100% either way of course, and even if there is a minority, there will still be a market of (different) perspectives for how things WERE portrayed.

I'd at be very happily content to see these videos given at least an occasional play ((once every few days, or better yet, nightly)), and let others have a say in what they are interested in watching in discussion.

I'll upload That exact scene you showed me ^ in VHS when I get it, and let it up to discussion.
