Hey guys, I thought I'd make a thread for semi-obscure titles (or flatout unheard of ones) to share with the community. My contribution is a little game called Vampire the Masquerade - Bloodlines.
Normally I don't really get down with the vampire stuff, especially given recent works of fiction, but this is a pretty good game. It's a first person RPG built on the Source Engine alpha, and has a rather active mod community even 7 years later, some of which do nothing else but fix bugs for you purists out there.
The game is set in a late 90's era Santa Monica, where vampires stalk the living while observing a strict set of rules known as "the masquerade". They're common sense type rules, don't suck someone dry, don't perform super human feats in public, but the one that concerns you is "Don't make more vamps without the local Prince's permission", because that's exactly what happened to you. Fortunately, you're spared, even though the vamp that turned you isn't, but now you owe the prince a favor, and that's where it all goes from there. You meet up with Jack and he walks you through the basics.
All-in-all, I think it's a great game. Though you don't get to pick what your character looks like, you do get to customize gender, stats, and vampire clan (which gives you different sets of powers and abilities, or in the case of Nosferatu, makes you ugly as sin). It's also one of the few games where it actually kinda pays off to boost those usually ignored social stats like persuasion and seduction, because the bonus dialog options are so often amusing or get you what you want with less work. It runs $19.99 and sadly has no demo, but if you can get your hands on it you likely won't be disappointed.
Finally, I leave you with this. If you pick the Malkavians as your clan, you suffer from insanity, which makes for some more interesting dialog options like this.
"You have made a powerful enemy this day stop sign."
