Correct. Gero is never mentioned at any point in the original series; the only character associated with the androids is a filler character named Dr. Frappe, who isn't canonically involved in the series since he only existed in the anime and not the original manga's story progression.
Well you have to remember that Dbz was supposed to end after Freiza, so the author knida had to make something out of nothing with the plot.

Does a sayin's tail make them stronger overall, or just when they transform.
