Tales from Earthsea

Description: Something bizarre has come over the land. The kingdom is deteriorating. People are beginning to act strange... What's even more strange is that people are beginning to see dragons, which shouldn't enter the world of humans. Due to all these bizarre events, Ged, a wandering wizard, is investigating the cause. During his journey, he meets Prince Arren, a young distraught teenage boy. While Arren may look like a shy young teen, he has a severe dark side, which grants him strength, hatred, ruthlessness and has no mercy, especially when it comes to protecting Teru. For the witch Kumo this is a perfect opportunity. She can use the boy's "fears" against the very one who would help him, Ged.
Reason: "Perhaps a step down for the Studio Ghibli filmography in terms of elegance and overall abstract pleasures, the feature remains an intermittently beguiling creation" (Brian Orndorf). I know this is not the best film from Studio Ghibli, but the story is dark and descent, the artwork is outstanding, the animation is crisp, and the music is absolutely beautiful. This was the first film directed by Gorō Miyazaki, Hayao Miyazaki's son. The cast includes the beautiful voice work of Aoi Teshima. I feel since we show most of the Studio Ghibli filmography, this would be a nice addition. Though Tales from Earthsea is not the shiniest gem in the world of Miyazaki, its still a priceless gem none-the-less! Check out the trailer!

I Approve of this
Personally, I really wanted to like this but I just didn't get into it like other Studio Ghibil films, I just could not get into the plot that much or establish an emotional connection with any of the characters in it. But i do agree with you Hazal that it had some beautiful animation and an awesome score to go along, i just think it could have been so much better in more experienced hands. My opinion aside, I still think this can fit nicely within TA along withe the other Studio Ghibli films.
That rug really tied the room together...
