but recently ive come at a point in my life where i dont know what i should do. ive graduated highschool almost a year ago. and i have no clue what to do. ive always liked knowing what i will be doing for the time being. and i work as do most people but college idk i... i just dont feel that its right for me. i have come to a crossroad with my life. ive alwasy been told go to college thigs will turn out great for you. but no in this day and age seems like college is a jock. everything is already filled and theres no opennings. so im stuck on what to do. and i just needed some outside thoughts on this. i just feel lost... and dont know what to do. this is of course off topic. but i just feel that many others are facing the same things that im currently facing and just need a place for free advice ya know?

"personally in the end it doesn't matter when you where born or how you got here or even why you are here... what truel matters is that you came here to relive something, something lost to the world,

just find out what you like to do. There are always openings for jobs and collage can help on figuring out what you want to do.

This isn't really "off topic" in a forum for "General Discussion" but I do question your judgment on pick this site of all places for self help. >_>

As for college, I had a blast my first semester. Laughing out loud Most entering freshmen list their majors as "undecided" too so wait if you like, but I'd jump in at least sometime next year.

Thx Hazel and Costa

Keep in mind if you go for college, you better make sure you have what it takes to do the work for years and get your degree. No need for getting yourself in debt thousands of dollars.

I can relate to that. I've felt the same way. I can't offer much other than what's worked for me and that's just knowing that there is always room in life for new experiences and for self growth. Just do what makes you happy, even if it doesn't include college. Personally I think going to college is a good idea because knowledge is strength, especially in the world we live in today.

College for me at first was a battle. I didn't know what to do and was left wondering if there was something out there for me. All I can say is pick out a number of courses that interest you the first year. Cruise on those and hopefully at the end of that run you'll find what you want to do. The teachers I worked under inspired me into my major when I felt like there was no road for me. Maybe you'll meet someone and find your wave. And hey if college doesn't work out for you don't stress - I know a couple of friends who never went to college and still live the good life. So don't say it's the end of the road just yet.

On a side note my brother dropped out of college and when he was cruising for work, he managed to pick up his groove and get back in. so it's not like once you drop, or leave, you can never get back in again. College will always take people, they like the monies. lol.

I'm at the same point as well (1 year out of high school and not sure what I want to do). I've thought about college, but I don't want to do college until I know what I want to do and then see if there's better alternatives that just college. I personally fell that college should be taken if you need it (don't want to waste money on a path if I can take a cheaper way that is just as effective).

I did one semester of college right after high school and never looked back. It didn't feel like good placement for me and to be honest, it felt just like high school all over again. I couldn't decide what I wanted to do, and I didn't want to amass a debt trying to decide. I still don't know what the hell to do with my life, but I can tell you this.

If you're going to work, pick something that has room for you to get promoted. Which is to say, don't go work for your local tattoo parlor, or Gamestop, or some local diner. For the record, I hate myself for saying this, but it's true. A lot of corporate business chains tend to be your better jobs for moving up. Coffee chains like Caribou and Starbucks are actually pretty good for this sort of thing and will actually offer some decent benefits. I've been working for an Avionics company for four years now and it's struggling. I've had to fight tooth and nail for every raise I've gotten and our benefits are complete shit.

If you're going back to school, you're probably better off. Even if you can't find a job in your field, just having a college degree is going to get you a better paying job. I know plenty of people who do jobs that have nothing to do with their education, yet they get in with starting pay way above what I'm making. One of my former roommates was a communications major. "What the hell do you do with that?" I have no clue, but now he runs a health clinic and is making bank.

Just something to think about. But if you do college, don't be too indecisive. You're better off getting your Bachelors in a field of your interest (even if you don't want to do it for the rest of your life) and having that education baking you to pad your wallet, you can always go back later if you want to do something new.

One last thing, if there is something you're particularly passionate about, but you don't want to go back to school to get a degree in it. Just do whatever it is that you want to do anyways. They don't tell you this coming out of high school, but experience is worth more than education in most cases.

I'll be damned if I end up playing Gob with God's loving hands on my throat.

Dude I feel the same and I just got a degree 2 years ago, working a crappy dead end job. Everyone says go for a masters now. All I can say is don't do what I did and just get in, get out and hand in assignments, forcing yourself to do it when you don't want to or think there are other options you rather take.  If you do stay use it to explore yourself and everything around you, make friends/network, and have fun.  Also try to work in your field (when you choose one) or take internships any you can and study abroad if offered.  But don't forget to study and don't expect the professor to teach you. College doesn't mean you will get a job, but it will help you more then you know if you go in with the right mindset.

Well, it all depends on what you love to do in life. Go to college (either 4-year or 2-year), don't decide on a major right then, and just... plan from there.
